Venting~ Maintaining Healthy Relationships

VENTING~ MAINTAINING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS DURING A DIVORCE:
It is natural to want to unload about your problems...and it is recommended.  However, even the best of friends will tire of constant negativity.  Here are some suggestions to maintain healthy friendships while going through a divorce:
  • Spread the venting around to different people.  Try not to always vent to the same person.
  • Try not to make every contact with your friend a negative thing.  Try and ask how they are doing.
  • Talk to a counselor.
  • Talk to a pastor...many churches, especially large ones, will have counseling services.  You could probably even call a church and set up an appointment just to talk to a pastor.
  • Write it out...journal, blog...however you are comfortable.  Sometimes, getting our feelings out on paper (or screen) is quite therapeutic.
  • Use the PFDRM Yahoogroup.  Vent your feelings out here...we've all felt similar things and we can truly understand.  We are here to listen, and could relieve some of the stress on your real-live friends.
  • Use the blog function on the PFDRM network....again, getting your feelings out in the open in a private environment can help.
  • Find a "real-people" divorce support group such as Divorce Care.
  • Find some other women in your church or community who are going through the same thing and form your own support group.  PFDRM "real-people" groups have to start somewhere.
